Eco Committee Hard at Work!

28th Apr 2017

Over the past few weeks, the St Columban's Eco-Committee have been very hard at work in preparation for their green flag assessment in June. They have now fully installed green recycling bins in every classroom and the staffroom and have also introduced food recycling bins in each classroom, which in turn is transferred to the school compost bin!

On Friday afternoon they took their work outdoors to plant the fruit and vegetables in the polytunnel. Using compost from the school compost heap, they planted; cabbages, onions, sweet peppers, tomatoes, lettuce & strawberries. They also planted wildflowers and potatoes in our up-cycled planters (old car tyres and concrete pipes-perfect for planters). As well as all of this, they planted flowers in window boxes, which are on display at the entrance to the school-they really were VERY busy!!

Over the next few weeks the Eco-Committee will be watering, weeding and looking after all the plants they have planted!
