Exploring area in P6
Primary 6 have been exploring the topic of area in maths.
The children have discussed how finding area is very much part of 'real life' maths and they talked about the different jobs, which they may have in the future, which would require them to know about and be able to calculate area.
One such job was that of an engineer. They discussed how an engineer would have to use a trundle wheel to calculate the area of a road or building site, in order to purchase materials such as tarmac and concrete. As part of their learning on this topic they investigated the area of different areas and objects in the hall, using a range of different measuring materials.
Primary 6 also learned that to calculate area you must multiply length by breadth/width.
