RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch!
On Tuesday of this week, Primary 4 and 5 were very lucky to have a visit from Sarah from the RSPB. Sarah gave a fantastic talk on how we can identify common garden birds by their appearance and call when taking part in a birdwatch. After we had received all this useful information, we put our bird-watching/identification skills into action and headed out to the school playground to take part in the Big Schools Birdwatch- an initiative being promoted by the RSPB to help their charity identify the variety of birds found in our gardens and school playgrounds. We even got to use binoculars! After we had recorded our results, we went back into the classroom and entered our findings onto the RSPB website, this then generated a bar graph displaying how many of each bird we had found in the school playground. We had a superb afternoon's fun and learned the names of many common garden birds, which we see everyday in the school playground! This also helped our Eco-Committee to achieve targets set in their action plan-a worthwhile afternoon all round! Thanks again must go to Sarah for giving up her time to come and see us!
